Krishi Vigyan Kendra(Farm Science Centre) was initiated by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) after the recommendation of Mehta Committee (1973). Now KVK's are established in every district of the country and is largest extension wing for agriculture development for effective transfer of technology developed in the laboratory for the field application at farmer's level.

           KVK West Sikkim was established in the year 2007 with the funding of Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-III, Barapani and under the Directorate of Food Security & Agricultural Development Department, Government of Sikkim at Gyaba, Gyalshing, West Sikkim. It is easily accessible located just in 2 Kms distance from the District Administrative Centre and 2 Kms away from the main market where it can be reached by 3 and half an hour journey by taxi's from Siliguri and also can be easily scaled within the same hour journey from the capital of Sikkim, "Gangtok".
